J&K EHWA seeks political reservation, financial assistance hike | KNO

Srinagar, Feb 22 (KNO): Members of the J&K Etihad Handicapped Welfare Association (EHWA) on Saturday urged the government to address their long-pending demands. Farooq Ahmad Dar, the association’s president and resident of Baramulla, speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) at the Press Enclave in Srinagar said the rights of people with disabilities were being neglected. He said their association members gathered today at press enclave Srinagar to demand political reservation for the community as they are also calling for an increase in the monthly assistance provided by the government from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000. Dar said they also sought relaxation in electricity and water bills, as highlighting many individuals with disabilities struggle to afford monthly electricity charges ranging from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000. Moreover, the group also urged the government to consider their demands in the upcoming budget and take concrete steps to support them—(KNO)
